Wrapping thoughts around your head is just the beginning of thinking and not thinking itself. If you take these WIP ideas to convince someone, you may probably fail. You may have to declutter your mind to think clearly and crystallise your thoughts.
Speaking while thinking creates a lot of clutter because:
- You are performing more than one task together
- Simultaneously thinking about an idea and how others will respond to it or understand the questions consumes much energy. Yes. Thinking burns calories.
- Multitasking with more than one thought process is not humanly possible
The best thing to do is prepare for all of this in advance and crystallise your ideas. Try the following to crystallise the thoughts and declutter your mind:
How to crystallise ideas?
- Write them down: it provides a structure to lineup your thoughts
- Define the objective first: it works like a lighthouse
- Go wild, capture all thoughts: don't evaluate in the beginning
- Write, write and rewrite
- Share with your workgroup (do you have one?) and seek their opinion
- It is not a must to incorporate all the inputs. Follow your instincts.
That's the way to curate an idea.
What if you don't get time to crystallise an idea?
The ability of the human brain is beyond comprehension. It can shrink hours into minutes and vice-versa. All it takes is to make a habit of following a process. If you have been following the above approach, your mind can still apply it in a given time frame, and the probability of success will be much higher.
